May 10, 1927: Lindbergh begins his epic journey leaving Rockwell Field, North Island, California, to Lambert Field, St. Louis, Missouri, and circle of St. Louis. In his log he writes, "Took off, North Island, 3:55 pm Pacific time. Over Lambert Field at 8:00 am, May 11, Central time. Landed at 8:20 am Central. Serious engine-missing over desert mountains at night. Probably due to lack of carburetor air heater."

May 12, 1927: Lindbergh, in The Spirit of St. Louis, leaves Lambert Field, St. Louis, to Curtiss Field, Long Island, New York. In his log he writes, "Took off, Lambert Field, 8:13 am, Central Standard. Landed Curtiss Field, 5:33 pm, Eastern Daylight."

May 20, 1927: After a few days of test flights at Curtiss Field Lindbergh moves The Spirit of St. Louis to Roosevelt Field on Long Island in preparation for the trans-Atlantic attempt. In his log he writes, "Took off, Roosevelt Field, 7:52 a.m. Eastern Daylight time. Landed, Le Bourget, 10:22 p.m. French time, May 21st. Fuselage fabric badly torn by souvenir hunters. Also, fairing strips broken and one grease reservoir torn off engine. Fuselage repaired and recovered at Le Bourget."
