The Kenwood Twins (500D TX/RX) were given to a good friend of mine who lives in Queretaro, Mexico. He has all vintage gear and also restores vintage gear. We met on 20 meter CW back in 2007 and quickly became friends.
The Twins were originally purchased here locally, when we had a Ham store, by a friend of mine and used for years. Then, in the late 1980s he sold them to a close friend of mine who found he could not use them well so we traded - he got a Kenwood TS-180 and I got the Twins. Put them on the air with a Vibroplex bug and had many years of great CWing. But, as time went on they were eventually boxed back up for safe keeping in favor of some more modern gear - most notably a Ten Tec Corsair II. And, I always felt a little guilty about putting them back in the box but space dictated that something had to go. After meeting Pedro I knew immediately that the Twins should go to him and, although it took some time, I finally got them to him. He tells me they arrived in perfect condition and were basically near mint condition both cosmetically and functionally. He says that most often now they are his first choice of gear and also his newest gear, HH. So, that makes me happy. I feel much better knowing that they are still a prized part of an active shack and now with a friend. The picture here is one of the last times I used them before boxing them up. It was at the National Weather Service SKYWARN Recognition Day special event in 2003. (seen with a set of Vibroplex Square Racer paddles) |
